Microwave Buying Guide
At A F Thomas Electricals we want to give you the same experience that you would get if you were in one of our stores so here are the key facts that you need to know when deciding on which Microwave to buy.
When looking to buy a new microwave you should consider the following:
Microwave Type
- Solo, this is a microwave only, ideal for defrosting, reheating meals and cooking food quickly.
- Grill combi, this will be a microwave with a normal grill fitted, ideal for browning food when you are cooking.
- Combination, this will have a microwave, grill and an oven combination all in one, ideal for combi cooking where you can combine the microwave with the oven and grill.
Power level
There are various different levels of power that are graded in watts, generally they come in the following levels
- 700 watts
- 800 watts
- 900 watts
- 1000 watts
The higher the level the more powerful the microwave will be and will cook the food faster.
Features and Benefits
There are many useful features that a microwave can offer you, some of the favourites are as follows:
- Auto Defrost, microwaves are great for defrosting but if you guess the timings incorrectly it will start to cook the food so Auto Defrost is a programme that takes away the guess work. Simply enter the weight of the food to allow the microwave to calculate how long it will take to defrost the food.
- Auto Cook, this is exactly the ame as Auto Defrost but will cook the food to the desired time instead of defrosting it. Generally you will also need to enter the food type into the control panel.
- Meal options, if you have a combination microwave and you like jacket potatoes then you will love this feature, simply select the food type as jacket potatoes, enter the weight of the potatoe(s) and let the microwave cook them, brown them and crisp the tops, all in a matter of minutes
- Flatbed microwaves, these microwaves don't use a turntable which is ideal for larger plates and awkward shaped items.
